Mounted Patrols to Police Back Country
Beginning Saturday, the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department’s mounted posse will start patrolling the back country in Los Padres National Forest.
The 20 posse members are volunteers who ride together into both popular and remote areas to protect against marijuana cultivation, property damage and other illegal activity, according to Cmdr. Mark Ball.
Posse members are aided by a global-positioning satellite system, which allows them to ride farther into the back country than four-wheel drive vehicles, Ball said.
