Mobile-Home Park Mediators Sought

Share

Simi Valley residents with an interest in community service and resolving rent disputes are encouraged to apply for permanent and alternate positions on the Mobile Home Rent Mediation Board. There is one vacancy for a permanent board member and two for alternates.

The five board members and two alternates are volunteers charged with finding fair resolutions when proposed rent increases put mobile-home park residents and managers at odds. The board usually meets twice a year.

“It’s a clear public service,” said Bob Cottle, a Simi Valley associate planner. “You get to see how it is out there for people living on pensions and limited incomes.”

The board reviews information submitted by park management and petitioners about rate increases or service reductions, and makes a decision based on that information. “It’s a real balancing act,” Cottle said.

Applications for board and alternate positions will be accepted through Aug. 11. Applicants--who must live in Simi Valley but need not live in a mobile-home park--will be reviewed by a two-member subcommittee of the City Council. The full council will appoint the new members.
