Realtor Named to Fire Commission
Mel Wilson, a Northridge real estate broker and president of the San Fernando Valley Assn. of Realtors, has been appointed by Mayor Richard Riordan to the city’s Fire Commission.
The five-member commission is responsible for overseeing the city’s 102 fire stations and more than 3,000 firefighters.
Wilson will fill the commission seat vacated earlier this year by Kenneth Lombard. His term will end June 30, 2002.
Wilson, 44, serves as one of three mayoral appointees to the Metropolitan Transportation Authority board. In February, he became the first African American elected to head the Valley Realtors association. An all-American defensive back at Cal State Northridge, Wilson played professional football for two years in Canada before returning to the Valley to pursue a career in real estate.
Wilson also served as president of the Pacoima Chamber of Commerce and the Valley’s United Chambers of Commerce. He works in the Northridge office of Coldwell Banker Real Estate.
