Offering courses that meet students’ needs for the modern workplace is a top priority for Cal Lutheran University’s new director of continuing education.

“It’s really [about] bridging the gap between business and education,” said Jo Lynn Feinstein.

Although the 22-year Conejo Valley resident is already familiar with the area’s economic landscape, she plans to stay in contact with business owners to identify their specific needs. Particular attention will be focused on teaching computer and supervisory management skills.

Approximately 3,000 students enroll in one or more of Cal Lutheran’s 100 continuing education courses annually.

A variety of course offerings, such as foreign languages and curriculum development, are also geared toward teachers of kindergarten through 12th grade.

Feinstein came to Cal Lutheran after a 3 1/2-year stint as a continuing education specialist in the Ventura-based extension office of UC Santa Barbara.

She also has six years of management experience with staffing and information services.

“I bring not only academic but hands-on management business experience,” Feinstein said.

She earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology at Cal State Northridge in 1986 and a master’s in business administration at Pepperdine University in 1990.

Feinstein volunteers on the education committee of the Oxnard-based Ventura County Economic Development Assn. and is past president of the Los Padres chapter of the American Society for Training and Development.
