Firm Chosen to Build, Maintain Golf Course
After weeks of deadlock, the City Council has finally agreed to hire American Golf Co. to build an $11-million course.
The decision over a builder for the municipal course had stalled when the council split 2-2 between selecting American Golf and Kemper Golf Co.
Councilman John M. Gullixson declined to vote on the issue in previous meetings, saying he needed more information about the two companies.
After receiving the information he wanted, Gullixson voted this month in favor of American Golf. “They came up with the better numbers,” he said.
American Golf, among other things, promised to charge $75,000 less than Kemper Golf for annual maintenance, he said.
The city plans to build an 18- or 27-hole course on a 205-acre parcel in north Yorba Linda. City officials say the golf course will be an investment that will pay for itself and bring in revenue to the city.
During the first year of operation, the city expects to make $1.4 million from the new attraction. By its fifth year, the city expects the course to make a profit of $2.5 million.
