Animal Shelter Giving Tours, Holding Festival

In observance of National Animal Shelter Week, the Orange County Animal Control and Shelter will offer tours, a festival and other activities starting Monday.

The purpose of the observance is to raise awareness of the pet overpopulation problem and to offer solutions, shelter officials said.

The aim is also to educate the public about the role of animal shelters and the importance of placing an identification tags on pets. It is estimated that 99% of impounded pets wearing tags are reunited with their owners within 48 hours.

Tours of the shelter will be from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Nov. 8. An education booth with representatives from the shelter and local rescue organizations also will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. during the week.

The week will end with a festival from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 8. The shelter is at 561 The City Drive South in Orange.
