Charge Reduced for Montgomery
Scott Montgomery, who is on probation for a felony conflict-of-interest conviction that cost him his seat on the City Council, had the charge reduced to a misdemeanor.
Montgomery, who resigned from office in late 1995, was convicted in mid-1996 of accepting a $3,500 loan from an east county trash company official and then voting on Moorpark city trash contracts with the company.
He was sentenced to probation and fined for the violation. In early October, Montgomery petitioned Ventura County Superior Court Judge Charles Campbell to reduce the felony to a misdemeanor, and on Thursday Campbell granted the request, court records show.
Montgomery is still paying off his $2,900 fine to the county in monthly installments and is also paying fines to the state Fair Political Practices Commission for campaign violations in 1994 during a failed bid for a seat on the County Board of Supervisors.
