Cause of Brush Fire Under Investigation

A day after flames tore through Oak Park and into Agoura Hills--threatening luxury homes on both sides of the county line--Ventura County fire officials still do not know what started the blaze.

“It’s still under investigation,” said Charles Carranza, a fire dispatcher for the county. “It is believed that it was man-made, but it is unknown if it was set.”

The fire, which began at the foot of a steep hill about 3:40 p.m. burned 136 acres near Lindero Canyon, officials said Sunday.

Although the fire was fully contained shortly after 7 p.m. Saturday, officials said an engine and hand crew were out Sunday morning checking out hot spots in some of the ravines.

No property damage or injuries were reported.

According to officials, the blaze started near a dry arroyo behind a tract of homes in Oak Park, and then spilled over a steep hillside and into Agoura Hills.

About half the burned acreage was in Ventura County.
