25 Tons of Toxic Materials Collected

Share

More than 1,200 residents and 35 businesses dropped off more than 50,000 pounds of toxic material at The Oaks mall during a recent Toxic Drop-Off Day.

Residents and businesses lugged paint, gasoline, motor oil, pesticides and other household chemicals to dump at the event. If not disposed of correctly, those substances may end up illegally dumped or stockpiled.

Most of the waste will be recycled or reclaimed.

Waste that cannot be recycled will eventually be taken to a hazardous-waste incinerator for safe disposal.

Organizers said those who participated Oct. 24 and 25 were in and out quickly, most in seven minutes or less.

The next toxic drop-off event will be Dec. 6 in Oxnard.
