Suspect Tried to Run Over Officer, Police Say
Undercover Newport Beach officers opened fire on a suspect after he tried to run over one of them Friday night, police said.
About 6 p.m., the detectives were buying drugs from men in the parking lot of the El Tapatio restaurant, 3700 W. Warner Ave., Santa Ana, said Newport Beach Police Lt. Tim Newman. Something happened during the transaction, and one of the suspects drove at one of the officers, Newman said.
No one was hit when the officers then opened fire, but three suspects were arrested, police said. Santa Ana and Newport Beach police are investigating.
