Redevelopment Zone Plan Moves Forward

Share

A proposal to turn about 725 acres of the western part of the city into a redevelopment zone took another step forward Monday as the Planning Commission approved a preliminary project outline.

The outline includes boundaries for the project area and officially notifies state and local taxing agencies that a redevelopment plan is being considered. It also provides the basis for the preparation of a more definitive plan for redevelopment.

Major streets within the proposed project area include Lincoln, Orange and La Palma avenues, Ball Road and Beach Boulevard.

Although the area makes up just 2.3% of Anaheim, a survey found that 30% of the city’s code violations and 15% of its crimes occur there.

“The findings for blight in the area are quite impressive,” Planning Commission Chairman Paul Bostwick said. “For a very small part of the city, it has a great deal of problems.”
