School District Offers New TV/Film Course
The Ojai Unified School District has launched a new course in the art and business of television and motion picture criticism and production.
The program, taught at Nordhoff High School by independent filmmaker Todd Jensen, is designed to offer students an education comparable to college film schools’.
Students will be responsible for producing short dramatic films, receiving instruction in screenwriting, directing and editing.
Students also will produce 30-second commercial spots, community-oriented documentaries and music videos. All student work will air on the local cable access channel, Jensen said.
Offered in conjunction with the district’s Regional Occupational Program, the video production classes are open to high school students over the age of 16, college students and adults.
“Our aim is to provide an instructive, creative, vocationally oriented education to students who love or are interested in film and television,” Jensen said. “We’re in the very early stages of the program, and are trying desperately to grow it quickly to meet student needs.”
