Oxford School Site’s Future to Be Discussed

The Anaheim Union High School District will hold a public hearing Thursday on what to do with the former Oxford Junior High School.

For the last seven years, the school district has leased the Orange Avenue school to Greater Long Beach Christian School Inc., which runs Brethren Christian High School.

Last year, the district voted to resume using the school and notified Brethren officials that the lease would not be extended for the 1998-99 school year.

“The meeting is to help us know what people want in the facility,” Supt. Janice Billings said. “The plan is to establish some sort of specialty school, but we want to hear from residents.”

Some residents have said they want the district to extend the lease to Brethren.

Others want the district to sell the property to the city, said Gail Kerry, a resident and former mayor.

“Brethren has been a good neighbor,” Kerry said. “We don’t want the site to be vacant in years to come.”

The meeting starts at 7 p.m. at the Cypress High School Media Center, 9801 Valley View St.
