Colorado’s Claude Lemieux figured he settled an old score Tuesday night.

Lemieux started fighting Detroit’s Darren McCarty only three seconds into the game, then reserve goalie Craig Billington stopped all 32 shots he faced to lift the visiting Avalanche to a 2-0 victory over the Red Wings.

Rene Corbet and Eric Messier scored third-period goals as Colorado won the first meeting of the season between the last two Stanley Cup champions.

Lemieux and McCarty were given a five-minute penalty for fighting and a 10-minute misconduct.

The two have squared off before, their most notable fight coming during a brawl-filled game between the Red Wings and Avalanche in March.

Philadelphia 1, Ottawa 0--Ron Hextall stopped 16 shots and Paul Coffey scored in the second period at Philadelphia as the Flyers extended their winning streak to four games and their unbeaten streak to six.

Hextall was making his first start since Nov. 2, when he strained his neck and back in a collision.

Phoenix 5, Tampa Bay 2--Brad Isbister scored the tiebreaking goal 5:55 into the third period and Keith Tkachuk added two goals and an assist at Phoenix as the Coyotes extended the Lightning’s franchise-record winless streak. Tampa Bay, 0-12-1 in its last 13 games, hasn’t won since Oct. 9.

Toronto 5, Chicago 2--Igor Korolev scored twice as the Maple Leafs rallied at Toronto to snap the Blackhawks’ six-game unbeaten streak (5-0-1).
