Hilan F. Keagy; Beverly Hills Veterinary Hospital Founder

Hilan F. Keagy, 90, founder of the Keagy and Keagy Veterinary Hospital in Beverly Hills. Born in Colorado and educated at what is now Colorado State University, Keagy started the hospital in 1932 and operated it with his wife and fellow veterinarian, Evelyn Hermann Keagy, until her death in 1988. At that time he sold the business to their son, Richard, who renamed it Beverly Hills Small Animal Hospital. Hilan Keagy was an internationally respected expert on diseases of the chinchilla and developed a vaccine to protect the small rodent prized for its fur. Keagy was active in the Beverly Hills Chamber of Commerce, where he pioneered studies of smog and warned of its dangers. He had been a Mason since 1934 and was active for 60 years in the Beverly Hills Rotary Club, for which he served as president. On Nov. 12 in Beverly Hills.
