The streak is over.

Rob Zamuner had a hat trick as Tampa Bay snapped a franchise record 16-game winless streak and 10-game losing streak by beating the New York Rangers, 6-3, Wednesday night at Tampa, Fla.

“The victory is for our fans,” said Lightning Coach Jacques Demers, who is 1-3 after taking over as coach.

Boston 3, Pittsburgh 3--Ray Bourque, beaten by Mario Lemieux for his first NHL goal in 1984, spoiled Lemieux’s retirement party by scoring the tying goal as the Bruins won at Pittsburgh.

The Penguins staged an elaborate 30-minute pregame ceremony to officially retire Lemieux’s No. 66 jersey.

Carolina 2, Montreal 1--Jeff O’Neill scored midway through the third period as the Hurricanes broke the Canadien’s five-game road winning streak with a victory at Greensboro, N.C.

New York Islanders 3, Detroit 2--Tom Chorske broke a tie early in the third period to lead the Islanders at Detroit.

Toronto 3, Philadelphia 1--Igor Korolev set up goals by new linemates Sergei Berezin and Mats Sundin at Toronto as the Maple Leafs beat the Flyers for the first time in four years.

Dallas 3, Edmonton 2--Darryl Sydor had a goal and an assist at Dallas as the Stars kept the Oilers winless in November.

NHL Notes

The St. Louis Blues’ Brett Hull said he has declared peace with USA Hockey, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported. Hull wound up in a fresh controversy this week when the Toronto Star quoted him as saying that U.S. hockey stars would boycott the Olympics if unsigned New Jersey Devils forward Bill Guerin was not included on the roster. Hull said he was misquoted. . . . Colorado goaltender Patrick Roy suffered a strained left shoulder in Tuesday night’s game against Washington and is doubtful for Friday’s game against Toronto. . . . Florida center Rob Niedermayer (dislocated right thumb) and recently-acquired left wing Viktor Kozlov (separated right shoulder) will both be out for up to six weeks. . . . Phoenix defenseman Murray Baron is out indefinitely after suffering a torn triceps muscle that will require surgery.
