Protecting Turtles
“Mexico Gets Tough in Turtle Wars” (Nov. 13) provoked great sadness in us. As founders of a national nonprofit dedicated to saving turtles and tortoises of all species, we are not surprised that Mexico’s marine turtles and their eggs are endangered. So are many species in the U.S.
It’s amazing that turtles have survived longer than almost any other living thing--about 200 million years--only to be taken down and out in about 50 years by mankind’s greed and stupidity. Since the poachers have no qualms about killing those who try to stop them, let’s lock up the poachers for life. Only then will these beautiful creatures survive.
