Charlotte Craven has again been named mayor--making her the first woman on the Camarillo City Council to serve as mayor three times.

Stan Daily turned the gavel over to Craven on Wednesday evening after serving his last day in the one-year position.

The council chose Councilman Kevin Kildee as vice mayor.

In his State of the City address Wednesday evening, Daily thanked council members for allowing him to serve as mayor for the sixth time since 1964.

“In my ending remarks, I would like to say how privileged I am to have been able to serve with this council,” he said. “Each one of you is dedicated to the city and, as a group, make an outstanding team.”

In the largely ceremonial position, Craven will lead council meetings and attend more city functions. Craven, first elected in 1986, also served on the city’s solid waste, utilities and library committees.

The only other woman to serve twice as Camarillo mayor was Sandi Bush, elected in 1985 and 1988.
