Players at Home on Road

As if they needed any more evidence, the Mighty Ducks again proved they’re better on the road with their 2-0 victory at St. Louis on Saturday night.

They beat the team with the second-best home record in the NHL. The Blues had lost only three times in their first 14 games at the Kiel Center.

The Ducks are 6-3-2 on the road, the third-best road record in the Western Conference. They are 3-1 in their past four road games. In contrast, they have been shut out in their past two home games.

The Ducks had a different look Saturday, playing a defensive-oriented, trapping system. It worked, holding the Blues to 23 shots on goal and limiting the rebound opportunities.

“Maybe you don’t have to play the trap every night,” goaltender Guy Hebert said. “But certain times that’s something you want to get back to, to play a simple game. And that’s what we did [Saturday].”

Update--The Ducks will try to win back-to-back games for only the second time this season. Their only successive victories came when they won three in a row from Nov. 10-14. Teemu Selanne has cooled off considerably and is one game from matching the streak of five games without a goal he endured earlier in the season. The Stars are coming off a 2-0 victory in Boston on Saturday. It was goaltender Ed Belfour’s league-leading fifth shutout. He shut out the Ducks, 4-0, in their first meeting on Nov. 16 at the Pond.
