Group Focuses on Smaller Rest Homes

The holidays are often difficult for senior citizens living in large residential facilities. But Christmas is even tougher for the elderly at smaller rest homes.

The bigger nursing centers are usually first in line when volunteers come around to visit seniors during the holidays. But those living in smaller facilities are sometimes overlooked. The Orange County Council on Aging wants to change that with its Adopt a Holiday Home program.

“We’re helping individuals that really have nobody,” said Shelley Woolery, program director for the council. “Somebody living in smaller residential facilities for the elderly doesn’t benefit from the activities of the community at large.”

The program organizes visits to homes that serve six to eight seniors. The council also accepts cash donations to help buy gifts for the seniors. Information: (714) 863-0323.
