Homeless Shelter Gets Temporary Reprieve

From Times wire reports

An Orange County judge granted a reprieve this week to 70 homeless people sheltered at a Buena Park church led by a controversial Southern Baptist pastor, allowing them to remain until Jan. 5.

In July, the Rev. Wiley Drake and his church were convicted on four counts of misdemeanor building code violations for his ministry center, which shelters and feeds the poor.

“I’m not gonna kick anybody off. Read my lips: I’m not gonna take anybody off,” Drake said this week.

The court gave Drake until after the holidays to pare the number of homeless to 52 at First Southern Baptist Church of Buena Park.
