Take High Road on Construction

Share

* I am not a chronic complainer, but enough is enough. The city of Anaheim’s freeways and roadways are a complete mess. I realize that many projects are going on at this time, but how much must we need to struggle with at once? It takes me 45 minutes to drive seven miles no matter which route I take!

One [problem] was created on the transition from the eastbound 22 to the northbound 5/57. It seems that for some reason it was necessary to cut off the right lane halfway through.

This caused a backup through the entire connector and as far back as five miles of the 22. It has been up to this point a reliable and consistently open transition because of adequate lane-age. But of course this has been downgraded to just another stuffed-up freeway artery.

I think there have been serious errors in the engineering of so-called improvements in the Orange County freeways, like the massive construction at the infamous Orange Crush, which lasted a few years.

The whole transition was redone only to achieve the same result, if not make it worse. I always thought that “improvement” meant make better, not worse. You can’t keep squeezing lanes together. Cars cannot be compressed.

I understand that certain situations are unavoidable and some problems cannot be corrected. With the volume we have now and will have in the future, Caltrans must take a harder look at solutions for these growing problems as opposed to making them worse.
