Arts Funding

I am getting a little, to put it mildly, sick of reading about whining people who resent paying 38 cents a year for the funding of the NEA (letter, Sept. 19). That is $100 million divided by 265 million residents.
I am not a spectator sports fan. I attend no pro games and do not watch them on TV. You can be sure through advertising, business box seats, special land agreements and tax breaks, I am paying probably hundreds of dollars per year in the added costs to products represented by these advertising and business interests. In other words I am, by virtue of the fact that I can not avoid paying for these sports, supporting enterprises that I have absolutely no interest in.
I enjoy the arts. If I had my way the NEA budget would be increased tenfold. Let’s see, that’s about a penny a day. I think I can afford it!
