McCutcheon Figures in Plans for Offense

The on-again, off-again experiment with cornerback Daylon McCutcheon on offense lives.

McCutcheon got into a game for his first offensive play of the season against California, a long pass intended for him that was overthrown by John Fox. USC Coach John Robinson said to expect more of the same, but “no more than 10 plays a game.”

Offensive coordinator Hue Jackson said he’ll incorporate McCutcheon when the situation is right.

“He’s real special with the ball in his hands,” Jackson said. “We need as many bullets as we can to score touchdowns.”

Competition for the kicking job has begun, with Adam Abrams and Adam Rendon alternating on field-goal attempts at the end of practice. Abrams, the starter, missed an extra point and a 34-yard field-goal attempt Saturday.

Safety Darnell Lacy’s hamstring injury is worse than originally believed and he is expected to sit out the rest of the season. . . . Ken Haslip has returned to cornerback after switching briefly to receiver and will wear No. 21. . . . Kickoff for Saturday night’s game against Nevada Las Vegas at the Coliseum will be at 7:10, five minutes earlier than scheduled.
