The reason the Ducks aren’t too distressed about losing tough guy Ken Baumgartner. At 6 feet 4 235 pounds, can fill that role, not to mention the penalty box. Had 204 penalty minutes in 1995-96. Was injured two games after being acquired from Pittsburgh.

Not the fastest skater or the fiercest player. Yet he’s still around. One of three original Ducks, so must be doing something right. Very dependable all-around player. Had Duck record 159 consecutive-game streak stopped because of chicken pox.

His crushing check, which injured Phoenix’s Jeremy Roenick, was a turning point in first round of the Stanley Cup playoffs. Scored two goals in key victory over Rangers on March 7. Also had goal against Detroit in Game 3 of Western Conference semifinal.

What more do you want from a goalie? Was 7-0-1 during the run for the playoffs and played until he dropped--from fatigue. Finished among the NHL leaders in save percentage and goals against average last season, which got him a fat raise.

Late-season acquisition from Hartford. Solid third- or fourth-line center. Strong on defense and good on faceoffs. Didn’t make any friends in Phoenix with physical play--got the better of it in a fight with Keith Tkackuk--but it helped the Ducks prevail.

Worth every penny, maybe more. Scored 99 points despite missing first 11 games with abdominal injury. Ducks were 1-8-2 in those games. Biggest moment was goal to give the Ducks a 3-2 overtime victory over Phoenix that forced Game 7 in playoff series.

Had two goals and six points in last 12 regular-season games. But he’s not paid to score. Was second on team in penalty minutes, reaching 200 for the second consecutive season. A guy to watch out for in the corners. Tends to dislodge nets a lot.

Wowed Duck officials with his speed and stick handling. Could be a flashy second-line center. Played three seasons in Sweden and five in Norway. Needs to be a little tougher on defense.

Played well in his first full season in NHL. A physical player who was called on to get rough in the playoffs. Only goal gave Ducks 1-0 lead against New York Islanders on Feb. 4. Other career goal came in 1991-92 while with St. Louis.

Matched his career high in goals. Value is measured in other areas. Led the team in penalty minutes, topping 200 for the first time. Physical style, especially in Game 7, was a key factor in the Ducks’ victory over Phoenix in first round of playoffs.

Might have been rushed into service last season after only one year as a professional. Was the Ducks’ first-round pick but had a rough first year in NHL. Spent much of the season with Baltimore and Las Vegas. Appears to have better handle on things now.

One of the premier players in the league. Finished second in points and goals. Best season since 132-point rookie year in 1992-93. Teamed with Paul Kariya for best one-two scoring punch in league. Will play for Finland in the Olympics.

He’s no shrinking violet. Has 33 points in five-year NHL career. But scoring isn’t his job. Averaged five penalty minutes per game with Seattle of Western Hockey League in 1985-89. All that nastiness tends to make opponents a bit skittish around the net.

Stepped in when Hebert was injured during the Western Conference semifinal against Detroit. Barely survived it himself, after being injured late in Game 4. Made 49 saves in Game 3 and 69 in Game 4. Couldn’t do it alone and Ducks lost both games.
