Matthews Plans to Play
If Bruce Matthews of the Tennessee Oilers has anything to say about it, his streak won’t be ending Sunday against the Seattle Seahawks.
Matthews, a 15-year veteran offensive lineman, has a sprained ligament in his left knee, which threatens to end his 153-game starting streak--the NFL’s longest for an active player.
“If I can play, I will and I want to play and I’m going to try and play,” said Matthews.

Denver Bronco quarterback John Elway, held out of Wednesday’s practice because of lingering shoulder soreness from several hits in Sunday’s 29-21 victory over Atlanta, resumed throwing.
Kicker Jason Elam, however, remained sidelined because of a pulled groin and strained hip flexor. Signed to the practice squad, Scott Bentley will be activated for Monday night’s game against New England if Elam can’t play.
Meanwhile, fullback Howard Griffith, who originally was expected to miss three to five weeks because of a sprained right knee, believes he will play Monday.
