Bruin Fans Not High on UCLA Drug Policy

Share

Let me see if I understand: The official UCLA drug-testing policy is that it takes three positive tests to be suspended and, after a fourth, the athlete is subject to an immediate suspension and scholarship revocation. Does actual suspension occur only if you are convicted of drug dealing? Kris Johnson also punched out a fellow student. UCLA then intimates that Johnson and Jelani McCoy will only miss some games? The Bruin policy of immediate parole for offenders just before big games, in football and basketball, is a joke. UCLA is sending a wrong and strong message to the youth in our community.

As an avid Bruin fan, I would like to see UCLA enforce tougher drug policies. Athletes who test positive for drugs should be dealt with severely after their first infraction. Allowing athletes to continue to participate in sports after as many as three failed drug tests sends a message of leniency. Athletes who use drugs should not be permitted to play. It’s as simple as that.
