Public Invited to CSUN Athletic Forum

Share

In light of the decisions and events related to the CSUN intercollegiate athletic program over the past year or so, President Blenda Wilson has convened a 15-member Task Force on Intercollegiate Athletics (TFIA) composed of student, faculty, administration, alumni and community representatives.

As chair of the TFIA, I am writing to outline our goals and encourage public participation in what will be an open, fair and equitable process. The involvement of all those with an interest and stake in CSUN athletics is essential to achieving our goals.

One of our primary goals is to develop a vision and a long-range plan for an athletic program that is compatible with the mission of the university. We are taking a broad view of the issues so that we can develop the best plan we can for an athletic program that is consistent with the academic, research, cultural and social framework of the university.

The issues we face are many and complex, and our best chance for success requires the active involvement of all parts of the campus community and community at large.

We have scheduled regular weekly meetings on Mondays at 7 p.m. The meetings on Monday and Oct. 13 will be held in the Grand Salon of the University Student Union. The location of subsequent meetings is to be determined. These meetings are open to all members of the campus community and the community at large.

You may contact the TFIA by e-mail at tfia@csun.edu or by mail at TFIA, c/o Dr. Bill Whiting, Department of Kinesiology, CSUN, 18111 Nordhoff St., Northridge 91330-8287.

The TFIA has an ambitious agenda. We believe that consideration of all views and opinions is vital. I personally invite you to share your views as we pursue our important mission.

Dr. Keith Richman, Chair, Task Force on Intercollegiate Athletics
