Dallas Drake’s goal midway through the third period snapped a tie and gave the Phoenix Coyotes a 2-1 victory over the Philadelphia Flyers on Sunday night at Philadelphia.

After two Flyers collided at center ice, Drake and Keith Tkachuk broke in on a two-on-one. Drake waited for defenseman Janne Niinimaa to go down and fired a shot that beat goaltender Garth Snow at 9:29.

The teams were whistled for 15 minor penalties in the first two periods but failed to exploit their power plays. Philadelphia missed all nine chances and Phoenix missed six.

At one point, Philadelphia had a five-on-three advantage but couldn’t beat goaltender Nikolai Khabibulin, who stopped 27 shots and won against the Flyers for the first time in four decisions.

Colorado 3, Edmonton 0--Claude Lemieux scored two goals and Patrick Roy made 19 of his 34 saves in the first period as the Avalanche won at Edmonton.

Roy, first among active goaltenders with 38 shutouts in his 12-year career, has won 17 of 24 games against the Oilers. Three have been shutouts.

Peter Forsberg also scored for Colorado.

Edmonton had four power plays in the first period, but the seven-time all-star goaltender blocked everything. Roy’s best stop came during a 30-second, two-man advantage. Todd Marchant found the puck just outside the Avalanche crease only to be robbed by Roy’s lunging kick save.

Tampa Bay 1, Buffalo 1--The Sabres’ Daren Puppa and the Lightning’s Dominik Hasek were sharp in goal at Tampa.

Puppa, who stopped Randy Burridge from just outside the crease in the final minute of overtime, stopped 36 Buffalo shots. Hasek made 30 saves.

The Ice Palace crowd of 12,198 was the smallest in the building’s two-year history. The previous mark was set Dec. 12, 1996 when 13,925 saw Tampa Bay and Edmonton play to a 2-2 tie.
