Firefighters Put Out Blaze That Threatened Homes
A wind-fanned six-acre brush fire, which briefly threatened to spread to several homes Tuesday afternoon, was extinguished 45 minutes after the first flames were reported, a Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman said.
About 70 firefighters, aided by two water-dropping helicopters, brought the blaze under control shortly after 3 p.m. in the hillside community near the 3800 block of West Point Drive, said spokesman Bob Collis.
Firefighters protected homes that might have been in danger had the blaze, pushed by 20 mph winds, raged out of control, Collis said. As it turned out, he said, there was no structural damage and no one was hurt.
