CITY SECTION

* TAFT (3-0, 1-0) vs. CLEVELAND (1-3, 0-1)

At Cleveland High, 2 p.m.

Cleveland Coach Joe Santellano believes tailback Terrence Young compares favorably to Marquis Brignac of Taft. “He’s better than Marquis,” Santellano said. Young has rushed for 456 yards and averages 8.9 yards per carry. Brignac has gained 502 yards and averages 9.8 yards per carry. Tackle Carlos Meza and linebackers David Melo and Tyler Brennan key the Taft defense.

SOUTHERN SECTION

* OXNARD (3-1, 1-0) vs. BUENA (3-1, 1-0)

At Ventura High, 7:30 p.m.

Desmond Davis of Oxnard rushed for 284 yards and scored 34 points in a 48-42 victory over Santa Barbara last week. Oxnard has the Channel League’s best offense, but the Yellowjackets also yield plenty of points. Buena, which opened with upsets of Westlake and Agoura, is a contender despite allowing more yards and gaining fewer than any league team. A strong run defense and the running of Aaron Kleefisch (445 yards, eight touchdowns, 94 carries) have enabled the Bulldogs to control the tempo against more talented opponents.

* NOTRE DAME (4-0) vs. ST. PAUL (4-0)

At St. Paul High, 7:30 p.m.

Notre Dame faces what likely will be its toughest test of the regular season. Chris Willis has completed 32 of 48 passes for 603 yards and six touchdowns for St. Paul, and junior Marcell Allmond has 13 catches for 201 yards and four touchdowns. Allmond also has a rushing touchdown and an 85-yard kickoff return. He has had three punt returns for scores nullified because of penalties. Notre Dame’s defense has allowed an average of nearly 300 yards per game. Justin Fargas has rushed for 981 yards and 13 touchdowns.

Brethren Christian, ranked No. 10 in Division X, relies on Adrian Castillo, who has rushed for 570 yards, including a 352-yard game on opening week. The Knights are ranked No. 2 in Division XI. Linebackers Phil Johnson and Kevin Griner, and ends Ruben Rojas and David Mattmuller are L.A. Baptist’s top players on defense.
