SAN DIEGO STATE FOOTBALL
* County connections: Andy Osborne of El Modena and Saddleback College is a starting linebacker for the Aztecs. Another former Saddleback player, Tim Sulick of Mission Viejo, is an outside linebacker. Other local players include wide receiver David Bedard of Fullerton College, offensive lineman Zach LaMonda of Servite, free safety M.J. Rzeznik of Mater Dei and cornerback James Stewart of Rancho Santiago.
* Worth noting: Osborne has 27 solo tackles and 33 assists. His 10 tackles-per-game average ranks third on the team and 13th in the Western Athletic Conference. Sulick, a reserve, has 11 tackles this year. The Aztecs are 1-5.
DIEGO STATE VOLLEYBALL
* County connections: Two Orange County freshmen outside hitters have moved into significant roles for the Aztecs. Summer Altice of Fountain Valley has played in 13 of 15 matches and Kelly Garner of Laguna Beach has played in every match. Leigh Ready of Irvine High is a transfer from the University of Massachusetts.
* Worth noting: The Aztecs are 8-7, but all seven losses have come against teams ranked in the top 25 nationally. Altice, who has 12 kills, leads all San Diego freshmen with 33 digs.
