Sandy Alomar, the former major league infielder and father of Cleveland catcher Sandy Alomar Jr., and Baltimore second baseman Roberto Alomar, sat in the Indians’ dugout before Game 5 wearing a media credential that identified his affiliation as “Indians/Orioles.”

Alomar’s rooting interests are understandably divided.

“I’m trying to stay calm,” he said. “I know it’s going to be bittersweet. One son wins and one loses, but it’s gratifying that at least one will go to the World Series. That’s better than last year, when Roberto eliminated Sandy [in the division series] and Roberto then got eliminated [by the New York Yankees in the championship series].

“One thing about our kids. They understand the game. They understand that someone wins and someone loses. As long as they’re satisfied with their effort, they can accept that.”
