Open Road
Several improvements have been made to the Costa Mesa Freeway (55), including a widened 1.3-mile segment to smooth the way for commuters. The project, begun in 1995, was officially completed Friday. A closer look at the changes:
1. One general purpose and one auxiliary lane added in each direction.
2. One additional lane added in each direction to 17th Street overpass.
3. 17th Street on- and offramps improved.
4. Santa Clara Avenue and Fairhaven Avenue overpasses reconstructed.
5. Connector from Garden Grove Freeway (22) to Costa Mesa Freeway (55) reconstructed.
