Three shootings that resulted in three deaths over the weekend brought the city’s homicide total to 16 this year, compared with 32 for all of 1996.

The first shooting, believed to be gang related, occurred Friday afternoon when two people standing in front of a store were fired upon, Sgt. Tom Rowson said. The two victims, Martice Womack, 15, and Anthony Williams, 18, both of Inglewood, were taken to hospitals where they were listed in stable condition on Monday.

The second shooting occurred at about 6 p.m. Friday when Artie Gilbert Sr., 48, was shot shortly before his car crashed into a light pole at Crenshaw Boulevard and Florence Avenue in Los Angeles. Los Angeles police officers began the investigation but determined that Gilbert, pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, had been shot in Inglewood. The investigation was relayed to Inglewood police.

The third shooting, also believed to be gang related, took place early Saturday in the 500 block of Nectarine Street. Edgar Patino, 20, of Inglewood, and Julio Rosas, 20, of North Hills, were sitting in a car with two friends when a van drove up. A man carrying a .22-caliber rifle exited the car, walked toward to Patino and began firing, Rowson said. Another man ran over to Rosas, who was trying to get out of the car, and shot him. Patino died at the scene. Rosas died during surgery at Martin Luther King Jr./Drew Medical Center, police said.
