Stein’s Sub-18 Effort Paces North Hollywood

Freshman Natalie Stein of North Hollywood High clocked 17 minutes 57 seconds over Pierce College’s three-mile cross-country course Monday to lead the Huskies to a 18-44 victory over Sylmar in a Valley Pac-8 Conference meet.

Stein’s time cut seven seconds off her winning performance in the Valley Pac-8 Conference Classic at Pierce on Oct. 8.

Tiffany Burgess of Birmingham, the defending City champion, ran 18:53 in her team’s 16-45 victory over Chatsworth. Jamie Newman of El Camino Real, the 1995 City champion, clocked 18:54 in her team’s 21-40 loss to Taft.

Chase commits: Germaine Chase, a 6-foot-7 basketball player from Valley College, has committed to Montana State, Valley Coach Doug Michelson said.

Former North Hollywood High star Damon Ollie was Chase’s host during his visit to Montana State.

Soccer update: Federico Arroyo, a former Van Nuys High player, scored his second goal of the game eight minutes into overtime, giving the Cal State Northridge men’s soccer team a 3-2 victory over Cal State Fullerton on Sunday in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation match at Fullerton.

Former Moorpark High star Tracey Milburn scored in the 28th minute of overtime, lifting the Pepperdine women’s team to a 2-1 victory over Loyola Marymount in a West Coast Conference match at Pepperdine.

Services for Ryman: A memorial service will be held at 6 tonight for former high school wrestling official Ken Ryman, a Canoga Park resident who died last week at age 73. The service will be held at St. Martin In The Fields Church, 7136 Winnetka Ave., Canoga Park.
