Powlus Will Have to Learn to Share

Ron Powlus is still the starter, but his days of being Notre Dame’s only quarterback are over.

A day after saying he needed to reevaluate the quarterback job, Coach Bob Davie said that junior backup Jarious Jackson will get more playing time, starting with Saturday’s home game against Boston College.

“Ron still gives us the best chance to win, but if our offense bogs down, we’ve got to find a solution for that,” Davie said. “We need to find out if Jarious Jackson is an option for us. So we need to play him, we need to play him early.”

Penn State fullback Aaron Harris will be sidelined for the remainder of the season after seriously injuring his knee Saturday in the Nittany Lions’ 16-15 victory over Minnesota.

Harris, Penn State’s second-leading rusher, tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee, said Dr. Wayne Sebastianelli, the college’s director of athletic medicine.

Mississippi Coach Tommy Tuberville said that he had a small patch of skin cancer removed from his nose about two weeks ago. There were no signs of any more cancer, the coach said. . . .
