Broken Toe Sidelines Dollas

Share

A closer look at X-rays of defenseman Bobby Dollas’ right big toe revealed a small break, and he did not travel with the team to Phoenix for tonight’s game against the Coyotes. Dollas also did not play Wednesday against Philadelphia.

“I can’t stand on it too good,” Dollas said. “I stubbed it on the first shift of Sunday’s game. We’ll give it a couple of days rest and we’ll go from there.”

The Ducks are expected to recall defenseman Ruslan Salei from Cincinnati of the American Hockey League if Dollas is sidelined for more than a few games. Brent Severyn, who spent most of his career on defense before moving to left wing last season, also could fill Dollas’ spot.

Espen Knutsen, a rookie center from Norway, is one of three Duck co-leaders with two goals in seven games. But he’s still trying to adjust to the physical play on the smaller rinks in the NHL.

“You have to work hard [to find skating room] all the time,” said Knutsen, who played the past three seasons for Djurgarden in the Swedish Elite League.

Teemu Selanne, the second-leading scorer in the NHL last season with 51 goals and 109 points, hasn’t scored a goal in five games. That represents his longest streak without a goal since a five-game slump in March, 1996.
