Anna Mary LaPiana; Foster Grandparent

Anna Mary LaPiana of Ventura, a longtime foster grandparent for the Assn. for Retarded Citizens, died Monday in a local hospital following a brief illness. She was 85.

LaPiana was born March 24, 1912, in Pittsburgh and was a 24-year Ventura County resident.

She had been a foster grandparent for many years and was a member of Our Lady of the Assumption Church in Ventura. Her husband Alfred died in 1966.

She is survived by daughter Barbara Boester of Ventura, two granddaughters, one great-granddaughter and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral Mass will be said today at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church in Ventura. LaPiana will be laid to rest beside her husband in Calvary Cemetery in Santa Barbara.

The family requests that memorial contributions in the form of volunteer work be made to Ventura Convalescent Hospital, 4904 Telegraph Road, Ventura.

Arrangements are under the direction of Ted Mayr Funeral Home, Ventura.
