Something to Gaine

While reading Kenneth Turan’s amusing and informative review of the Al Pacino-Keanu Reeves potboiler “The Devil’s Advocate” (“ ‘Advocate’: A Case of Satan on Retainer,” Calendar, Oct. 17), I was puzzled by a reference to Reeves’ lawyer character “first [being] glimpsed in a Gainsborough courtroom.” Was the reviewer saying that the scene looked as if it Were taken from a painting by the artist?
But having seen Reeves say in a TV interview that, in preparation for the film, he had flown South to practice his accent and being from Miami, I realized that the courtroom’s locale was actually Gainesville. That little burg usually only gets noticed by the media for being home to the University of Florida, and I felt it deserved a proper mention for its one turn in the Hollywood spotlight.
