Hurricanes Blow Past Blackhawks

The Carolina Hurricanes rallied with goals by Geoff Sanderson and Nelson Emerson late in the third period to beat the Chicago Blackhawks, 3-2, at Chicago.

With 4:09 left, Sanderson tied the score, 2-2, with a shot from the right circle.

Emerson then scored his fifth goal with 1:05 left from right in front as he took a pass from Keith Primeau behind the net to break the tie.

Phoenix 6, Buffalo 1--Jeremy Roenick scored twice, including the 300th goal of NHL career, and slump-ridden Mike Gartner added his 697th goal as the Coyotes defeated the Sabres at Phoenix.

It was the first goal since April 3 for Gartner, who is one of six players in NHL history to compile 600 goals and 600 assists.

Detroit 5, Vancouver 1--Kris Draper set up two goals and the Red Wings capitalized on two of only three shots on net in the second period to coast to a victory over the slumping Canucks at Vancouver.
