My Favorite Weekend

Elvira (a.k.a. Cassandra Peterson)

Scary Shopping: I could spend a whole day and all my ready cash shopping at the Sorcerer’s Shop on Santa Monica Boulevard. It’s the place to stock up on all your witchcraft needs, especially the infamous Irresistible Drops love potion.

Eerie Eating: My favorite spot for a late-night “bite” is Musso & Frank’s. It’s Hollywood’s oldest restaurant and used to be a hangout for famous authors. I’ve actually spotted the ghosts of Bill Faulkner, Ernie Hemingway and Ray Chandler at the bar downing Musso’s world-famous “jumbo” martinis! Of course, that was after I’d downed a few myself. But what’s really spooky are the waiters, most of whom look like they’ve been there since the restaurant opened . . . in 1919.

Spooky Stargazing: One of my favorite weekend pastimes is “stargazing.” But forget those dopey maps to the stars’ homes! When I want to see stars galore, I pack a picnic and head for the Hollywood Memorial Cemetery. You won’t believe the big names you can dig up there . . . Rudolph Valentino, Tyrone Power, Jayne Mansfield . . . to name a few. It’s the only place where, I guarantee, you’ll get within 6 feet of your favorite star!

Mystical Magic: A weekend just wouldn’t be a weekend without stopping off at my favorite hangout, the Magic Castle.

Haunting Hide-Out: Nothing beats grabbin’ a bottle of wine and a warm body and strolling the eerie, decaying ruins of the Harry Houdini mansion in Laurel Canyon. This place is just crawling with spirits.
