Benefit to Feed Fund for Theater Restoration
The Balboa Performing Arts Theatre Foundation will sponsor the Taste of Balboa Sunday, featuring food from 16 local restaurants.
Proceeds will go for the purchase and restoration of the Balboa Theatre, which has been closed since 1992.
Since its closure, the group of residents has been working to restore the vintage theater, a building they consider the heart of their community.
Foundation Board member Dayne Pettit said the group has encountered difficulty raising money despite having widespread support in the community.
Last year, the group earned about $50,000 from various fund-raisers. It still needs to raise about $1 million for repairs and restoration.
The Taste of Balboa will be held at a parking lot, at East Balboa Boulevard and Palm Street, from 4 to 8 p.m.
