SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

A couple whose bodies were found badly decomposed in their home Friday are believed to have died of natural causes, according to investigators, who declined Tuesday to identify the pair.

Coroner’s officials said it was not yet known how long the couple had been dead in their Raymond Avenue home. Police found the bodies after neighbors reported a foul smell outside the home, but there were no signs of violence.

“We don’t suspect anything unnatural at this point,” said Chahe Keuroghelian, Glendale Police Department spokesman.

Investigators noted that it is unusual for a couple to die of natural causes at roughly the same time. “I find it a little bit odd, but so far it appears natural,” said Scott Carrier, spokesman for the Los Angeles County coroner’s office. Carrier said other couples have died of natural causes within hours of each other.

“We see something like this on occasion,” he said.

Police said they believe they know the couple’s identities, but would not make them public. The man was 67 and the woman 87, according to the coroner’s office.

Police said neighbors reported hearing the couple’s dog barking inside the house for days before the bodies were discovered.
