Consultant Hired for Mariner’s Mile Project
The City Council recently agreed to hire a consultant to help it find ways to improve the commercial district known as Mariner’s Mile.
At the urging of a group of citizens, the council decided to spend $30,000 to have the consultant develop plans for beautifying the district along Coast Highway between Newport Boulevard and Dover Drive.
In addition to improved streets and sidewalks, the citizens group said the area needs a stronger identity. The group suggested the consultant develop proposed strategies for clearly identifying the district, such as putting up new signs.
