Battalion Chief I.W. “Butch” Sweet on Monday will become interim fire chief for the San Gabriel Fire Department, City Manager Michael Paules said.
Sweet, a 29-year veteran, will run the department until a decision is made on a permanent chief. Sweet replaces Genny Murry, who retired in August after nine years as San Gabriel’s fire chief.
“Chief Sweet has a track record of outstanding leadership and adherence to the highest standards of professional conduct,” Paules said. “I am confident that the San Gabriel Fire Department will be in good hands.”
