4) WASHINGTON (1-0) BEAT NO. 19 BYU, 42-20

Tar Heel quarterback Chris Keldorf looked like he’s still recovering from back and ankle surgery and losing 30 pounds. He had three passes intercepted. But tailback Jonathan Linton ran for 121 yards in 22 carries. Next: Stanford

The Buffaloes trailed, 14-7, at halftime, but senior wide receiver Phil Savoy delivered a halftime pep talk and Colorado turned it on the third quarter as Rashidi Barnes and Marcus Washington made key interceptions. Next: At Michigan

Ricky Williams rushed for three touchdowns and Aaron Humphrey intercepted three passes as the Longhorns warmed up for UCLA. Quarterback James Brown left the game late in the first half because of a sprained ankle. Next: UCLA

The Hurricanes, 45-14 winners over Baylor in their season opener, got an extra week to prepare for defending Pacific 10 champion Arizona State. That game will be nationally televised by CBS. Next: Arizona State

The Trojans’ hopes ended when Florida State free safety Dexter Jackson tackled receiver Billy Miller for no gain after a short completion on fourth and six at the Seminole 26 with 2:20 left. Next: Washington State
