City Council OKs Hiring Auditor to Review Budget
Effectively reversing a 4-year-old policy, the City Council has unanimously approved hiring an independent auditor to examine its $90-million annual budget. Bids will be solicited over the next few weeks, with the audit scheduled to begin November, said spokeswoman Randi Joseph.
Four years ago, opponents killed funding for a proposed audit, said City Councilman Ed Wolkowitz. One opponent has since reversed himself, while two other opponents are no longer on the council, he said.

Culver City audit--The City Council of Culver City has approved an independent management audit of city government, not a budget audit as described Sept. 10 in The Times’ Community News File.
“Generally, it’s a good idea to have outside consultants look at how you function,” he said. “It’s clear to me that department heads believe their organizational structures work. But perhaps there are other ways to be more efficient.”
