Given the way this meeting has gone, Bob Baffert may very well be standing in the winner’s circle after today’s $250,000 Del Mar Futurity.

The runaway leader in the trainer standings with 25 victories heading into the final day of the 43-day season, Baffert has scored 12 of those victories with 2-year-olds.

He will have two shots to get another in the seven-furlong Futurity, which he won last year with Silver Charm, sending out Souvenir Copy and Commitisize in the field of eight.

Third in the Best Pal Stakes last month after an easy maiden victory in his Aug. 3 debut, Souvenir Copy will have his third jockey in as many starts. Chris McCarron replaces Kent Desormeaux, who replaced the suspended Corey Nakatani.

Commitisize broke his maiden by three lengths in his debut Aug. 23. Desormeaux will ride him.

Gary Stevens, who was aboard Commitisize in his initial outing, will ride Double Honor, the 2-1 favorite.
