Nahan Is Stepping Aside at Channel 5
After 30 years as a familiar face and voice in Southern California sports television, Stu Nahan will announce on tonight’s 10 p.m. KTLA-Channel 5 newscast that he is stepping aside.
Nahan, 71, will do twice-weekly commentaries for KTLA and occasional assignments, but is retiring as principal sports anchor.
No replacement has been named.
Known to many as the broadcaster of Sylvester Stallone’s fights in the “Rocky” films, Nahan has long enjoyed a popularity with top athletes and Hollywood celebrities as he has with viewers.
He divided his TV career in Los Angeles almost evenly between KABC-Channel 7, KNBC-Channel 4 and KTLA, where he spent the last nine years.
Nahan began work in Sacramento, as a sportscaster and host of a children’s TV show, “Skipper Stu.”
He commuted to Philadelphia for a number of years, to broadcast Flyers hockey and Eagles football. Then began a 10-year stint at KABC-TV and a long association with KABC radio, particularly with that station’s “Ken and Bob” morning program.
While reducing his obligations for KTLA, Nahan says he is looking forward to having time to devote to other media projects.
